Summary.....
Breaks : 45 minute break can only be taken in two separate periods, not three as now. The first period must be at
least 15 minutes and the second at least 30 minutes.
Daily rest : 11 hours rest, may be reduced to a minimum of 9 hours upto 3 times
in any one week. Any reductions will not require compensation.
Split daily rest : Maiximum of 2 periods. The first no less than 3 hours & the second at least 9 hours. Which effectively puts an end to being able to
extend the duty period to 16 hours, because the regulations also require that, counting forward from the start of duty, all activities and required rest must
be taken within 24 hours.
Weekly rest : In any two consecutive weeks, a driver must take at least two standard weekly rest periods (45 hours each) or
one standard weekly rest period and one reduced weekly rest period (at least 24 hours).
Reductions in weekly rest down to 24 hours can be taken anywhere, not just away from base, and will need to be compensated
by the end of the third week following the reduction.
Weekly / fortnightly driving limit : No change to fortnightly, but a new 56 hour weekly driving limit is introduced.
Double manning : Daily rest 9 hours in 30, but the presence of another driver is optional for the first hour.
Ferry or train : Daily rest may be interrupted twice, providing the rest period is at least 11 hours.
Off road driving : All driving is counted as 'carriage by road' so private site driving cannot be 'other work'
Other work : Drivers must record all other work, including work for other employers, if it is done in the same
week as their normal work.
Carriage of passengers

Duty Rosters & Service Timetables.
